Where We're Staying
Edition Tokyo Ginza: A sleek, design‑driven hideaway in the heart of Ginza, a central Tokyo district filled with luxury boutiques, buzzing cafes, and restaurants right outside the hotel door. Our stay offers stylish rooms, a rooftop bar, and a fitness center. Breakfast is generous, and the hotel offers several bars to enjoy a nightcap in. Its intimate scale and curated aesthetic design create a polished urban retreat within one of Tokyo’s most vibrant shopping districts.
Four Seasons Kyoto: Built around an 800-year-old ikeniwa (pond garden) once part of the Shakusui-en estate, the hotel offers a rare opportunity to stay where samurai and poets once wandered. The garden is the centerpiece of the property: tranquil, timeless, and carefully maintained to honor its original form. The resort-style hotel is 10 minutes from Kyoto station and offers spacious rooms, an extensive gym, an indoor pool, tranquil spa rituals, and thoughtful Japanese design. The hotel balances tradition and modern elegance, excellent service, and great dining options (we encourage you to try the fluffy Japanese pancakes for breakfast!)
What We’re Doing in Japan
On this unforgettable journey through Japan, blending the electric energy of Tokyo with the timeless elegance of Kyoto. We’ll begin with four nights in the ultra-stylish Ginza district. Picture rooftop welcome drinks, a curated sushi-making experience, and guided strolls through the tranquil Meiji Shrine and the bustling Tsukiji Fish Market. Dive into Tokyo’s vintage shopping scene, and explore the colorful streets of Harajuku. There’s plenty of time to wander, shop, and savour the city’s culinary delights, with our handpicked recommendations to steer you to the best the city has to offer.
Then, it’s all aboard the iconic bullet train to Kyoto, where we delve into traditional Japanese culture. Settle into a world-class hotel and discover the magic of Fushimi Inari’s thousand red gates, and experience the artistry of kimono dressing. Kyoto has a wonderful shopping scene including artisan ceramics, and world class matcha. Our journey culminates in a spectacular farewell dinner in Kyoto, complete with a private Geisha experience—a true taste of Japanese elegance.
This trip is all about immersive culture, elevated experiences, and the perfect balance of guided adventure and free time. Join us for an unforgettable week of discovery, style, and the very best of Japan.

Meet Your Hosts
Leading this Atlas Adventures trip to Japan is Marigold, our Asia-based trip planner with a passion for exploring the continent and its rich culture through immersive journeys. Over the past 12 months, Marigold has been living in Shanghai and travelling extensively throughout the region. She has personally visited Japan to scout this trip, meet our guides, and work hand in hand with our ground partners to ensure an unforgettable trip.
Marigold grew up across Europe and the Middle East, has lived in the UK and Australia, and speaks fluent French. She has a passion for finding authentic local experiences and untouched natural beauty. She joined the Atlas team after meeting Whitney at yoga teacher training where they connected over their belief that travel is about discovering yourself and the world.
Marigold loves the variety Japan has to offer, from gleaming skyscrapers to atmospheric tea houses, as well as the focus on mastery and quality that runs through everything. A self-confessed foodie, she can't wait to make and eat the freshest sushi with you and introduce you to our ultimate girls' night with a Japanese twist, dressing up in kimonos, and meeting some wonderful Geishas. It is such a magical way to learn about this unique tradition up close!
Who is this trip for?
Atlas Adventures are built around a shared set of values rooted in kindness. We believe in prioritizing connection (whether with locals or fellow travelers), keeping an open mind through all experiences, and being adaptable with all that travel may bring. If the descriptions below sound like you, we want you to join us!
You are extremely flexible, open minded, easy-going and always up for a range of experiences.
You’re a positive person who looks for the best in all circumstances.
You enjoy meeting new people and are keen to make friends on this trip.
You desire to be a better traveler: respecting other people, other cultures + the planet along the way.
UNIQUE CONSIDERATIONS FOR japan
You are an adventurous eater and enjoy exceptional food: think sushi made fresh at the market, steaming bowls of ramen, and delicate Kyoto sweets. Food is central to Japanese culture, and we will be trying a range of local delicacies on this trip.
You’re open to a mix of guided activities and free time, where you will navigate to places solo. The nature of many restaurants in Japan is small-scale, meaning that to discover hidden gems and real Japanese culture, splitting off to do your own thing or in smaller groups is a must on this trip. Don’t worry, the team will always be on hand for advice!
You’re happy taking a variety of modes of transportation, including the metro. Tokyo is a large and bustling city, and there will be times when we take the metro as a group to activities as the most efficient form of transport.
You don’t mind a little adventure and walking moderate distances. This trip is a city break where there may be crowds, and we will be walking to sightsee. Comfortable shoes are a must!
You’re excited to embrace a new and different culture. Japanese hospitality is renowned, but expectations can feel different from home.
