Where We're Staying
Tucked away in the leafy suburb of Karen, Hemingways Nairobi is an elegant, all-suite boutique hotel set between Nairobi National Park and the rolling Ngong Hills. Each of its spacious suites has a private terrace overlooking the hills, and butler service makes settling in easy after a long flight. With a spa, a pool, a lovely brasserie, and a classic afternoon tea, it's the perfect calm and luxurious home for our first two nights in Kenya. It also puts us close to some of Nairobi's best-loved spots, including the Karen Blixen Museum and the Giraffe Centre.
Hidden in a fever tree forest within the private Kimana Sanctuary, Kenya's first community-owned conservancy, Angama Amboseli is an intimate lodge of just ten tented suites. Every suite faces Mount Kilimanjaro, with floor-to-ceiling screened doors so you can see the mountain from your bed and even your shower. Private decks come with Angama's signature rocking chairs and an outdoor shower, perfect for watching elephants wander past between game drives. This corner of Kenya is home to some of Africa's last "Super Tuskers," and over our three nights here, evenings end with drinks and stories around the fire under the stars.
Perched on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, 1,000 feet above the Maasai Mara, Angama Mara takes its name from the Swahili for "suspended in mid-air," and one look at the view shows why. Its tented suites are spread across two intimate camps, each with a floor-to-ceiling glass front that frames the endless plains below, finished with bright Maasai-red touches. The lodge sits right above the Mara Triangle, and some of the most memorable scenes from Out of Africa were filmed on this same ridge. It's an unforgettable home for our final three nights on safari, whether we're out on game drives or simply watching the wildlife from our private deck.
What We’re Doing in Kenya
Designed for both first-time safari-goers and those ready to experience a completely new corner of Africa, this is our most immersive safari itinerary yet, and one we’ve intentionally designed to be virtually all-inclusive. We’ll spend five full days on safari across two distinctly different regions of Kenya. Aside from individual airport arrivals, an optional meal in Nairobi and hot-air ballooning for those who choose to add it, virtually everything is included in the trip price.
We’ll kick off our adventure with two nights in Nairobi, exploring this vibrant city and staying at the iconic Hemingways Nairobi, the perfect place to settle in and ease into the journey before safari.
From there, we’ll fly to Angama Amboseli for two nights, where the experience is as much about the setting as the wildlife. Amboseli offers a completely different perspective on safari, and that contrast is part of why we wanted to pair these two regions.
Our grand finale will be three nights at Angama Mara, perched high above the sweeping grasslands of the Mara Triangle. The terrain, wildlife, landscapes and rules around game drives all make Kenya its own experience.

Meet Your Hosts
Annie Fitzsimmons has covered all things travel for the last two decades across many platforms and in a constantly evolving media landscape under the umbrella of her own travel company. Her book, "National Geographic's 100 Hotels of a Lifetime," has been distributed worldwide and translated into multiple languages. She has held various roles over the course of almost a decade at National Geographic Travel, including luxury editor, editor at large, and the first and only Urban Insider, reporting on cities, culture, and people around the world. She has worked or written for top media and travel brands, including Embark Beyond, Elite Traveler, AFAR Media, and Virtuoso. So far, she has hosted more than 45 trips across the world for small and large groups, planned itineraries for private clients, and created hundreds of travel guides. Currently based in London with her family, she has traveled to six continents for work and will make it to Antarctica one day.
In her time traveling the world, she has never felt the way she does when traveling throughout Africa, a continent of 54 countries, each completely different in culture and history. The magnetism of Kenya runs deep, and it is the perfect introduction to the scale and spirit of East Africa: vast landscapes, extraordinary wildlife, incredible people, and a deep commitment to conservation at the places we will visit and stay. She also loves cities and is excited to spend time in Nairobi for a glimpse of the creative, ambitious, modern Africa that is just as much a part of the story.

UNIQUE CONSIDERATIONS FOR KENYA
You want to be shown the way. While our trips typically give you plenty of time to explore on your own, Kenya is a destination that’s better enjoyed with a local guide leading the way when you’re unfamiliar. Travelers are required to follow instructions from our guides at all times to ensure safety.
You respect wildlife. While we all dream of having encounters with magnificent animals like lions, elephants & others, we must respect that these viewings are a privilege. Travelers are required to follow instructions of our guides at all times and agree to always prioritize the well-being of the wildlife around us. No exceptions.
You don’t mind riding in a vehicle for hours at a time: Whether being transported around Nairobi or going for game drives at the Angama properties, we will be spending a significant amount of time in various vehicles every day on this trip. Travelers need to be comfortable with this & should reconsider if they are prone to being carsick.
You’re flexible with your luggage. As we will be taking internal flights on small aircraft, a strict 15 kg (33 lb) luggage limit per person, including carry-on items, applies. Hard-shell suitcases are not permitted, so please plan to travel with a soft-sided bag. The good news: during the final five days of the trip while on safari, limited laundry services are complimentary, so you can re-wear a few items and pack a little lighter!
