The Victoria & Alfred Hotel blends historic character with modern comfort in a prime location on Cape Town’s iconic V&A Waterfront. Set in a restored 1904 warehouse, it offers beautiful harbor and Table Mountain views, easy access to waterfront restaurants and attractions, and warm, attentive service. With stylish rooms, on-site dining, and a lively yet elegant atmosphere, it’s an ideal base for exploring the city while staying right in the heart of the action.

La Cle is a refined boutique hotel tucked into tranquil, fragrant gardens in the heart of Franschhoek’s wine country, an exquisite mountain-ringed valley renowned for its magnificent wines. The property is the one place that allows you to experience the splendour of an active wine farm within the borders of a characterful French Huguenot village. Surrounded by vineyards and nature, with art, food, and wine on your doorstep, La Clé is the perfect base to explore this sought-after destination.

Tanda Tula Safari Camp is a luxury safari lodge set along the Nhlaralumi River in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, offering an immersive and intimate African bush experience. The camp features nine elegant canvas-and-glass suites with private decks and plunge pools, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding wilderness. Expect exceptional wildlife viewing, eco-conscious design, Tsonga-inspired interiors, and unforgettable game drives in one of South Africa’s premier Big Five regions.

What We’re Doing in South Africa

We’ll be spending a week visiting the most iconic regions that the country is known for. We’ll spend two nights together in Cape Town where we’ll spend a day exploring the Cape Peninsula- one of the most gorgeous areas of South Africa and full of adventure around every corner and visit the penguin colony on Boulders Beach.

From there, we’ll venture to the Winelands for two more nights. We’ll have a guided tour of the Cape Winelands where we’ll explore farms, vineyards, and captivating grounds, and partake in a farm-to-table dining experience. Finally, we’ll end in the bush for three nights to end the trip with an incredible safari!

This particular trip is unique to other Atlas Adventures trips. While there will be pockets of free time throughout the week, most activities & meals are already planned for you (with a guide) and are included in the ticket price. We realize that South Africa is often viewed as a “once in a lifetime trip” and that it’s a destination many aren’t comfortable navigating on their own. Because of this, we’ve included much more in the ticket price. We’ve also gone above & beyond to ensure the partners we’re working with & properties where we’re staying are optimal.

Annie Fitzsimmons has covered all things travel for the last two decades across many platforms and in a constantly evolving media landscape under the umbrella of her own travel company. Her book, "National Geographic's 100 Hotels of a Lifetime," has been distributed worldwide and translated into multiple languages. She has held various roles over the course of almost a decade at National Geographic Travel, including luxury editor, editor at large, and the first and only Urban Insider, reporting on cities, culture, and people around the world. She has worked or written for top media and travel brands, including Embark Beyond, Elite Traveler, AFAR Media, and Virtuoso. So far, she has hosted more than 45 trips across the world for small and large groups, planned itineraries for private clients, and created hundreds of travel guides. Currently based in London with her family, she has traveled to six continents for work and will make it to Antarctica one day.

In her time traveling the world, she has never felt the way she does when traveling throughout Africa. South Africa is the perfect introduction to the continent if you've never been, and a place you are desperate to return to throughout your life if you have been. She is most looking forward to sharing the breadth and depth of the beauty of South Africa with attendees. It is everything together in one country, and we are exploring all of it: the urban energy, the winelands, and the feeling of being so close to the earth while being on safari.

Atlas Adventures are built around a shared set of values rooted in kindness. We believe in prioritizing connection (whether with locals or fellow travelers), keeping an open mind through all experiences, and being adaptable with all that travel may bring. If the descriptions below sound like you, we want you to join us!

  • You are extremely flexible, open minded, easy-going and always up for a range of experiences.

  • You’re a positive person who looks for the best in all circumstances.

  • You enjoy meeting new people and are keen to make friends on this trip.

  • You desire to be a better traveler: respecting other people, other cultures + the planet along the way.

UNIQUE CONSIDERATIONS FOR South Africa

  • You want to be shown the way. While our trips typically give you plenty of time to explore on your own, South Africa is a destination that’s better enjoyed with a local guide leading the way when you’re unfamiliar. Travelers are required to follow instructions from our guides at all times to ensure safety.

  • You respect wildlife. While we all dream of having encounters with magnificent animals like lions, elephants & others, we must respect that these viewings are a privilege. Travelers are required to follow instructions of our guides at all times and agree to always prioritize the well-being of the wildlife around us. No exceptions.

  • You don’t mind riding in a vehicle for hours at a time: Whether being transported around Cape Town & the Winelands, or going for game drives at Tanda Tula… we will be spending a significant amount of time in various vehicles every day on this trip. Travelers need to be comfortable with this & should reconsider if they are prone to being carsick.

  • You’re flexible with your luggage. Luggage with a hard shell, frame, or wheels is permitted at the lodge we’re staying at (Tanda Tula), as we are able to drive from Hoedspruit airport directly to the property. However, in the highly unlikely event that plans change and we need to relocate to another lodge, only soft-shell bags may be permitted, as we may have to take an internal flight on a small plane (hard-shell bags are not permitted on small planes). In this instance, you may have to store hard-shell luggage at the airport at your expense. Alternatively, you can pack for the trip in a duffle bag (no larger than 16 x 12x 24 inches). Again, this is a highly unlikely occurrence but something we want to make everyone aware of. Please note that for the last 3 days of this trip, while on safari, laundry services are complimentary so you can re-wear clothes and save space!
